GREAT VINEYARDS HAVE VOICES THAT RESONATE WITH DEPTH AND CLARITY

Vöcal is about the natural tension in the vineyard between grape and ground, the sun and rain, the cellar and the hand of man. Each contribution is important. These are vineyards influenced by the deep, cold Monterey Bay. This deep upwelling of cold water results in a very windy, very chilly and very sunny coastal growing region.

All wines are made in a reserve style. These wines will age with elegance.

Our vines are rooted deep in old soils, soaking in the brilliant California sunshine and leaning into the brisk bay winds; this is the voice behind Vöcal.

2019 ENZ VINEYARD "SABROSO"

The 2019 vintage of Sabroso is sourced from the Enz Vineyard in the Lime Kiln Valley Ava in San Benito county lying on the northern side of the Gavilan Mountain Range. Originally planted in the 1890s and purchased by Bob and Sue Enz in 1967, this site is home to the Cabernet Pfeffer mother block. It's origin is a mystery, but it is spicy and delicious. All vines here are own-rooted, organic and dry farmed in limestone. "Sabroso" is a Spanish word for "tasty" Enjoy with a slight chill.

2019 ALFARO VINEYARD GRÜNER VELTLINER

Richard Alfaro's Vineyard sits at 550' elevation, south-west facing, the soil is composed of mostly sand and stones: mountain erosion being in the lower slopes of the range. Redwoods, coastal shrub and pines fill out the borders. Our block was grafted over in 2012 and is farmed organic. The 2019 vintage reflects the returning drought stress on the vines, Superb flavors developed in this later than normal harvest due to the long season.

2018 LILO VINEYARD PINOT NOIR

The Lilo Vineyard perches 800' over the Monterey bay. Ringed by redwoods that act as a wind break and influence the vineyard. The vineyard is a south facing half bowl with a top soil of loose poor sandy loam.

Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir is legendary, it is red fruited, svelte, spicy and fresh for decades. The long sunshine hours and cool climate of the Monterey Bay results in delicious long lived wines that capture an elegance most believe only possible in the “old world.”

2018 BATES RANCH, CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Cabernet Sauvignon is legendary in the Santa Cruz Mountains, The famed Monte Bello and Mount Eden vineyards have grown and crafted epic Cabernet for generations. Forty miles south, tucked into the redwoods and live oak savannahs on the back side of Mount Madonna and cooled by the breezes off the Monterey Bay that come over Hecker Pass, the Bates ranch cares for some of the most special old vine Cabernet in the region.

Vocal was lucky enough to be offered an allocation of hillside rows of Cabernet Sauvignon off the original dry farmed, own-rooted 1969 planting on the Ranch. The wine is spicy and rich and displays the chiseled elegance of old vine Cabernet. Our Cabernet is about honesty over cosmetics.
